Fundraising Screening for Ukraine

in front of us film series presents the animated short film Heartbeat by Marfa High School student Aubrie Aguilar. Heartbeat recently placed fourth in the state semifinals of the University Interscholastic League.

Heartbeat will be followed by Bad Roads (2020, 105 min.) by playwright and screenwriter Natalya Vorozhvbit. The award-winning film tells four stories set in the Russian dominated territory of Donbass in eastern Ukraine. Bad Roads features four stories: one man alleging to be a schoolmaster is accosted by the military at a checkpoint, two teenagers wait for their soldier boyfriends in a dilapidated town square; a journalist is held captive and gets brutally assaulted; and a young woman apologizes to an elderly couple for running over their chickens. Bad Roads, Vorozhvbit’s first film, was originally presented on stage in 2017 at the Royal Court Theater in London.

Vorozhvbit has requested that the screening serve as a fundraiser for aid to Ukraine. Donations will be given directly to the Red Cross Emergency Appeal program. All funds will be used to help those in need, affected by armed conflict, blood collection, mobilization of volunteers and resources, and emergency activities.Donations can be made during this screening or at the following page. Beverages will be provided by Marfa Spirit Co and treats by Aster Marfa in support of the fundraiser.

All screenings are free and open to the public.
